ABOUT

Hey hey, ya’ll, please allow me to introduce myself. Hmmm, where do I even start. Well I guess the beginning is always a good place. So we’ll start from there, I’m originally from Cincinnati Ohio. I’m a southern California transplant and have been out here for a few years now. I guess that means despite how expensive and utterly ridiculous the traffic is here. I’ve grown to really like the place. I’ve been out here for a while now so there has to be something that keeps me here right lol. I like to think of myself as a random adventurer. As you look through the different pages of this site. Though I tried to make it cohesive you will see that the randomness comes out in multiple ways.

Let’s get to the good stuff. Where I came from regarding what I went to school for and how I came to the point I’m at now. I’m all about life experiences so there is a blog section on this site as well. My hope is to share my work and my art. Along with what ever else may be on my mind regarding the industry and overall just life.

SO WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE EMBRACING YOUR ART?

I got my Bachelor’s degree in Audio engineering with a concentration in Audio for Visual Media from Columbia College Chicago I know a mouthful. I had stopped doing sound design for a while. Lost my way, couldn’t quite figure out where I fit in when it comes to the world of sound. Realized pretty early on I wasn’t the most conventional sound designer. I interned at Doppler Studios in Atlanta. Briefly worked for Gigantic in NYC. Did live sound back home in Cincinnati. This was the reason for moving out here to Los Angeles in the first place. So not the typical cliche of I wanted to be an actress or model. Though I did dabble a little bit with background acting I mean why not I am in LA.

WHY REAL TIME WITH RELL AND WHY START IT?

I did not come to LA with the dream of making it big in Hollywood. At least not what’s considered the norm like acting. I came here with the dream of becoming an excellent sound designer. I do freelance work here and there. I love audio and have a talent for making immersive sound pieces that I like to call sound films. In one point in time though, with everything that was going on in my personal life. I had lost the drive and the ambition to keep going with it. That passion and that fire I once had for sound design had simmered out. I thought if I did everything the right way, send my resume to post studios. Interview and possibly get the job that would suffice. It did not, it felt stifling I knew my work wasn’t really my work but there work. Taking a break from the conventional sound design made way for my art, my sound pieces.

With that being said of course, I had to get a job to be able to sustain myself. Again, I chose to move to Los Angeles, and I have to pay that LA rent. So I ended up getting a job at United Health Care. Literally, a job that pays the bills. It still isn’t what I wanted to do or could even see myself doing long-term. Sounds pretty similar to people you know and maybe even yourself right? I’m creative by heart so I have to do something with my imagination and my thoughts. So after much deliberation and praying, I came up with Real Time With Rell a way to showcase my art.

I really want to encourage people to do what they love and take that risk to do it and hopefully make a difference. Real Time With Rell is exactly that, a way for me, to be me and be unapologetic about it. I know there’s a lot going on in the world right now. It can be hard to focus on just one thing, let alone something that you are passionate about when you’re just trying to survive. When your just trying to keep your family fed and the bills paid. I think we all can relate to how that feels.

WHAT DOES REAL TIME WITH RELL MEAN?

I like to think it’s pretty simple, Real Time With Rell means exactly what it says. Real Time with me being me. Being able to create what ever comes to mind in the discipline of my choosing. In this case that would be sound. For once I’m giving real time to my creative expressions and thoughts. My hope is that everyone who visits my site and takes the time to listen to the pieces can not only be transported into the space. But hopefully be encouraged to do what they love. To create what they want to create or do the art they always wanted to do.

  1. You said something that really made me think and that is be unapologetic for being you. I think about all the times where I felt a unacceptance from people that know me and don’t know me and how that got a way of making you feel like your wrong because you feel totally comfortable with who you are who your voice is and I realize it makes them uncomfortable because there not comfortable with who they are and look at you as your wrong for being who you are. So you are so right Real talk thank you for sharing you. Much love sisterā¤
